Mayweather vs Marquez

Last night Mayweather fought Marquez. I was sitting at home really wishing my people had not flaked on me and wishing I could watch the fight without going to a bar. And I suddenly remembered that I have a cool neighbor that watches this sort of stuff. I ran next door and sure enough, Sam was having some guys over to watch the fight. Another perk was that I was a bit early for the fight and got to see some of the UCLA game. Back to the fight. Mayweather just killed Marquez. Marquez was landing something like 12% of his punches, and Mayweather was landing about 58% of his. And pretty much all 58% were landing on Marquez's face. But the reason I even tell this story is because of Sam's reaction to the fight. He was freaking out. "He keeps punching him in the FACE!" "Stop punching him in the face!" "He has a family" "Punched him in the face!" "Another punch in the face." "Another punch in the face." "Another punch in the face." "Another punch in the face."

I couldn't stop laughing especially when Sam just layed face down on the floor because he did not want to see Marquez get punched in the face one more time.

Why he watches fights if he can not handle seeing a fighter lose is beyond me.

I actually enjoyed the fight even though I wished I was watching UFC 103.

New Year's Resolutions Revisited

I tend to not make New Year's Resolutions....for many reasons. I think the last real New Year's Resolution I made was about ten years ago. The resolution was to be nicer. I am still working on it. I thought I had made progress, but two recent conversations have made me wonder if I have made any progress.

Conversation 1:
I was chatting with someone I met recently and he told me that my words were like daggers. He said that because I am small, I belittle people as soon as I meet them and therefore preemptively defend myself.

Conversation 2:
An friend of mine was asking me if I watch a particular tv show. He said I remind him of the main character. Since I had not seen it, I asked him to describe the character. He responded with Wikipedia's description which was that the character was a misanthrope. I suspected that I should be offended. Unfortunately I did not know the definition of misanthrope.... But I looked it up. A misanthrope is someone who hates or mistrusts humankind. Grrr....is that me? I pretended to be really offended and he admited that he might have been wrong to call me a misanthrope.... But am I really one?

Morale of the conversations: I have not finished with that New Year's Resolution yet.

Quilt

So I think it was about 2004 or maybe even 2005, my Aunt Laura decided she wanted to make me a quilt. I went to pick out the fabrics and immediately gave up. She is the one that is good at that sort of stuff. I ended up telling her to just make me a quilt of the colors one would find on a Caribbean beach, sand, water, palm trees. About a month ago, this showed up on my doorstep. I have to admit.....I am not disappointed. Thank you, Auntie!

Two of my Besties

Two favorite ladies who always know how to make me smile! Where would I be without them?

Labor Day Weekend Part 2

Sunday of Labor Day weekend, Miiish invited some friends to his parent's cabin in Arnold. I dropped Celeste off at work and then hung out with some UCLA peeps for a few hours. It was a really good time. There were a few earmuff moments, but Morgan has decided that I no longer need the earmuffs. I am not sure if that means he thinks I am irreparably corrupted or if they have all just mellowed out a little. I think it is probably the former.

Miiish and Shira

I even got to play a little Shesh Besh.

And Morgan was in the company too! I got lucky to see him one last time before he is off to London!

And Morgan still knows that he can always make me smile with a little bit of the Safety Dance.

Labor Day Weekend Part 1

September 5th was the Summerville High Class of 1999's 10 Year Reunion. I was not excited. Well, I was very aware it was coming up and I was mildly looking forward to it, but when I got the invitation in the mail, I had a mild anxiety attack. So I called Victoria. And she laughed at me. And I felt better.
Victoria and Jason picked me up at Celeste's house. We laughed the whole way there. As soon as we pulled up to the Elk's Lodge, a few scruffy boys stumbled out acting like 18 year olds. I almost got back in the car. Instead we went inside and bought drinks. The best way to make it through any evening!

Victoria and her boyfriend Jason. She was a little annoyed that Tanner kept calling him her husband.

I wanted at least one picture with my red shoes. Without Victoria and the red shoes, I probably would have never made it to the event much less through the night!

They opened the time capsule that we had created at some point in high school. Mostly it was just letters to our future selves and letters to each other. Those envelopes did hold some surprises. For some reason Victoria thought she might need Advil in the future. Tanner seemed eager to find the letter he had written to Carly Witmer. Victoria and I would not let him open the ones addressed to her.

The last day of High School, Victoria and I had our picture taken with Luc. He was the tallest. We were the shortest. Those fabulous red heels give me a bit of an advantage now.

You might have noticed by now that most of the pictures have both Victoria and me in them. It just seemed right. Our last year in high school we made a huge effort to put as many pictures of ourselves in the yearbook as possible. You can do that when you are nerds and are the editors of the yearbook. This pic is Dave Twining and his girlfriend Shadow with us. See, occasionally we let other people in our pictures.

Our goodbye took quite a while....enough for Jason and Celeste to take about 10 pictures like this. What can I say. I love my Victoria!
