Boring....

I once was lectured by an older great uncle who I had just met that very day about saying I was bored. I don't really remember all that much about the lecture but I do remember that it did not endear him to me, and it did make me question myself and my behavior any time I felt bored.

This weekend I was really bored. Bored and lazy. Thank God I will begin volunteering on the weekends soon and I will have something to take up some of my time.

Even this post is boring...I can't help it!

He buys me Lime Perrier

I told him once that Lime Perrier is one of my five favorite things in the world. And now there is always lime Perrier in his fridge. It makes me happy.

And speaking of Perrier....I took Celeste to Cafe Crepe this past weekend. And I made her switch seats with me so I could enjoy my breakfast looking at my favorite Perrier poster. Someday I will have this in my house so I won't have to go to Cafe Crepe and spend money just to look at it. But then again, why would I ever look for an excuse NOT to go to Cafe Crepe?

Needles

I HATE them! I really do.

I have signed up to volunteer at Cedars Sinai. Already did the interview. Already did the orientation. Today was the true test for me regarding the sincerity of my decision. I had to go get a TB test and have some blood drawn. Not cool at all. I try to be tough and pretend like I don't even notice what is going on but it doesn't always work. When she poked me for the TB test I was hoping that it was almost over and then she said, "I can't seem to make this work." Oh great....so it hasn't even started yet.....I will have to hold my breath a little longer. You will be glad to know that I survived.

Then I had to go down the hall to the lab to have the blood drawn. They made me sign in on a little card with a number on it. I sat for a while before they called my name. I was so eager to get it over with....but they were just calling my name to say that I should have kept the card with my name on it instead of leaving it at the counter, so I picked it up and sat down again. Then they called my number to say that I should have left the card at the window, so I left it at the window and sat down again.

When I finally had my turn and sat in chair #4, I warned the nurse that the needles, blood, etc freaks me out. Generally mentioning something like this makes them nicer and gentler. I think this guy decided to give me something to be scared of! I don't want to talk about it anymore....hopefully it the experience will fade in my memory very quickly!

But tattoo needles don't bother me at all....try to make sense of that.....

Lost in Space

I couldn't sleep last night. All I could think about was this.... If you were an astronaut and you were working on the outside of a spaceship and for some reason floated away, how would you die? Would it be a lack of oxygen, dehydration, starvation, or would you freeze? I couldn't stop pondering this, so I messaged a friend and I asked his opinion. He very quickly responded with one word.....Freeze. That made me a bit concerned, what if there was a fifth option that I didn't even think of? So I messaged him back. The only other option he could think of was a lack of love. I guess I could call NASA and ask them. For now I am settling with the lack of love, all the other ones seem to messy. Bottom line is that I hope none of us ever accidentally drift away from a spaceship....

Premonitions

"Denial ain't just a river in Egypt."

-- Mark Twain

Denying something that is in your face doesn't make it go away. Ignoring your instincts and the feeling in your gut always comes back to bite you. And it really sucks when you are the one saying "I told you so!" to yourself.

Free Fallin

...Free fallin, now I'm free fallin, now Im I wanna glide down over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky Gonna free fall out into nothin Gonna leave this world for a while...

Tonight I decided that I wanted to go up on Mulholland and see the city. For those of you that don't know, Mulholland is a road on the mountain ridge between the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles. I was looking forward to seeing the lights of the entire city and it didn't quite turn out as I expected. It was kind of hazy and I couldn't see any of LA, but this is the San Fernando Valley...

I was planning on taking Mulholland much further than I actually did. I must have taken a wrong turn. I ended up on Sunset Blvd right beside the Beverly Hills Hotel.

I decided to take the opportunity and drop by another of my favorite places in LA.....UCLA.

I parked beside Murphy Hall. I only stayed for about ten minutes but all the drummers were outside practicing, so it ended up being a very cool experience.

Perfect Weekend

Even though I did not have the money to go to the East Coast and take in a few baseball games last weekend, I have absolutely no regrets!! It was exactly what I needed.

Before our plane even left LA, my stomach already hurt from laughing. But that is nothing new considering I was with Uncle Toby. I think we are each other's perfect audience. Toby was not too pleased with the flight to New York since he claims he could smell urine the entire time. This of course makes me giggle still remembering his obvious discomfort. When we reached NY at 6am on Saturday, it was raining with a forecast of thunder showers.

I was a bit bummed to say the least at the prospect of the game being rained out after going such a distance. We decided to go to the stadium even if it was raining. Luck was on our side. It quit raining and got very sunny....that of course included humidity. We were so happy to not have our dreams of seeing a ballgame at Yankee Stadium dashed that we suffered gladly in the heat and humidity!

Early Sunday morning we went to Penn Station to catch the train to Boston. This was our first station on the trip from NY to Boston. I particularly like this picture because it reminds me of when I was little and wanted to be an artist and trying to figure out how to draw and studying vanishing points.

I like trains. And I know Toby was enjoying the transportation sans urine smell! Although he was not so pleased to discover the state of disrepair that his glasses had fallen into while in his backpack.

I am not so much a fan of Dunkin Donuts....I remember the first time I tried it....a rainy day in NYC in 2002 with two of my favorite people in the world...you know who you are. We sat at that table in the window and watched the people walk by. But New Englanders think that DD is the best coffee in the world. I took this picture mostly to taunt a Bostonian friend of mine that misses DD since he now lives in LA.

And finally FENWAY!! I absolutely loved the day in Boston! It was perfect! Not hot, not cold, breezy, absolutely perfect. Fenway has a much more comfortable feel. Being at Yankee Stadium felt like it was all about the money. Fenway felt like it was all about the baseball. Two completely different experiences. All in all it was a perfect weekend. I would have changed nothing.

Next Summer.....Wrigley Field!!

Claddagh

So a long time ago I was sitting beside the neighbor that lived half way down my lane and I noticed her wedding ring. It was something I had never seen before and it interested me. I commented on it and she explained it to me. It was an Irish ring, the heart in the center symbolized love, the hands on either side symbolized friendship and the crown on the top symbolized loyalty. I really liked the entire idea, and I always wanted one. But I never told anyone.

About a year ago, my boyfriend at the time decided to visit Ireland and he brought back a Claddagh ring necklace for me. I was very happy for many reasons. The first one being that I had always wanted one, but had never told anyone. Second reason was that it was the first gift he ever gave me and the third reason was that he was smart enough to get me the silver necklace instead of the gold. I thought he never noticed the little things but he had noticed that I never wear gold if I can help it. I wore the necklace every day and every night.

I have since quit wearing the necklace for obvious reasons.....but I missed the Claddagh. So I bought myself one. Why wait on a guy to buy you a ring? I can take care of myself!

And then I found this one.....I am not into diamonds....never have been, but I have decided that this is the wedding ring I want if or when I ever get married. I feel like making fun of myself right now because I used to make fun of....oh, who am I kidding! I STILL make fun of girls who pick out their wedding rings when they are single!
