San Jose Adventure

Ever since I saw Minnie in April I have been wanting to take Conrad up to Santa Clara to meet her. It is cool enough to meet someone over a century old, but when those are my good genes involved, I thought Conrad needed to meet her first hand.

We started our roadtrip by heading to Reno to see Conrad's family for a few days and help his mother. She was injured in a car accident in February and just had surgery in May.

Next stop was San Jose where we spent the first afternoon and evening at Fuchsia farm. Grandpa took us up in his tree house and showed us how he was planning on improving it, showed us his bees and described bee mating rituals and of course identified all the vegetables he had planted in his garden.

We took a mini break to attend an evening service at a local synagogue since it was Erev Shavuot.

And finally we made it to the pink pearl on Madison. Auntie Nancy is there looking after her and had just recently purchased a recorder to preserve some of the stories she tells. At one point Nancy had her sing us some songs that she had learned when she was four. At first I felt bad that Nancy was asking her to sing for us as if she was a performing monkey. But then it hit me how bizarre it was to hear someone singing a song that they had known for over 100 years.

Leah was in town visiting Aunt Sharon and stopped by to hang with us for a while.

We also stopped by to see Uncle Bill and Aunt Sharon, and I could not resist taking a picture out with his new hobby. He has started carving totem poles!

That is incredible! I love old generations...and to personally know one of this age?? That's sweet as all get out! I can only hope that when I age much further I can recall songs of my childhood. As it is I can't remember what I had for lunch today. :0)
