Carmageddon Day 2

So apparently the Los Angelenos took direction for the first time. Everyone listened to the horror stories of what might be occurring if we all went about our normal weekend business and the streets were empty. Spooky empty. In fact the news helicopters flying over were the most obnoxious part so far.

Conrad was frustrated he did not get to see the on ramp closed down so we walked over to make sure all had been completed. It passed his inspection.

Carmageddon Day 1

Last night the on ramps to the portion of the 405 that is closed this weekend were scheduled to close at 7pm. Since we live so close to the 405 we decided to walk down to the intersection here on the news. Conrad wanted to watch his "tax dollars at work."

I guess the media did a good enough job freaking us all out about the possibility of horrific traffic jams. I have NEVER seen Santa Monica Boulevard so vacant, especially at 6:30 on a Friday night.

We picked a nice spot under a tree across from the on ramp. Conrad was on the lookout for his tax dollars to show up and start working.

It started to get boring. Even the official sitting in his car on the sidewalk seemed antsy and got out to look around officially.

And then I got really bored. Was taking pictures of the tree, the leaves, Conrad, etc. Until he got sick of being the subject of the photos and stole the camera.

And made me the subject.

I made Conrad promise to go home with me if nothing happened by 7:30. Well, not NOTHING happened. We got to see someone get pulled over by motorcycle cops.

But we did go home before the freeway on ramp was closed. And made ourselves a nice little Shabbat dinner.

Shabbat Shalom

Hollywood Urban Adventure

Thank God for Groupon! Without Groupon we would not have discovered City Race. It is a race that takes you through a designated area of town searching for clues, similar to a treasure or scavenger hunt without the treasure or objects. The smart phone for sure made the whole event much simpler. We did the adventure on July 10th with the theme "Hollywood, past, present, and future."

Originally we were supposed to be a team of four but our fourth member decided at 3am that he would rather stay with the new girl he met and left us with an empty spot that we were unable to fill last minute. But I will say that Team Fosters was pretty amazing. This is Team Fosters soon after we arrived at the start line. At this moment we were feeling pretty confident once we would do once we scoped the competition.

There were several opportunities to take team pictures for bonus points. The following is Team Fosters making an entrance to the Kodak Theater. In case you were wondering, there are 37 steps from Hollywood Blvd up to the theater doors.

Since I had never heard of Graumann's Egyptian Theater, I am going to assume it is less widely know. We were instructed to make a human hieroglyphic. Does this count?

Our final bonus picture was supposed to be with a superhero on the walk of fame. These superheros only take pictures for tips. And up close, I do not think anyone would actually want to pay for a picture. Oh well, choose what makes a better story, right?

We finished the race with time to spare, hot and tired. I told the boys to make their best exhausted face. I think Conrad thought I said "make your looking into the sun face."

And finally our reward for a job well done! I have to admit, Team Fosters was pretty much like a team of honey badgers. We just took whatever we wanted.

Friday Night Live

Once a month, Sinai Temple has a Friday night service that they call Friday Night Live. It is young version of a Friday night service. This Friday the held the service at the Ford Theatre. Since I bought tickets at the Ford Theatre for Conrad's birthday we have wanted to return.
We pack what has been since called a Shabbanic... That is Shabbat combined with picnic. One bottle of kosher wine, four plastic wine glasses and challah bread.

We took two of our new friends with us to Friday Night Live, Jonathan and Bettina. We met them during our Judaism By Choice classes and wanted to hang out with them more. We were not disappointed.

Port Townsend Trip

I spent the last weekend with these five fabulous people. It was a very good weekend.

Even looking at this picture now, I am mad at myself for not soaking up more of the moment, more of the love that filled that weekend.

Honey Badger

A few weeks ago I noticed that someone on facebook had posted pictures of one of my cousin's weddings. I remembered that Forest's family went to the wedding, so I eagerly looked through over one hundred pictures trying to get a glimpse of my nieces and nephews. I was getting irritated that the photographer had taken lots of dumb pictures of people I do not know and had clearly overlooked all the cute kids. And then I found this one and all was forgiven.

I can not really even put into words how happy and proud this made me. I have decided that Pearl has earned her Honey Badger title. She just takes whatever she wants. I love you Pearly girly!
