Best Birthday Weekend Ever (Part I)

Months ago, I bought tickets to see Eddie Izzard for the Friday before my birthday. For those of you that don't know, Eddie Izzard might be the funniest, most clever man alive. I only throw in the word "might" because it is not impossible for him to be surpassed in humor and wit, but I do believe it is highly improbable. I was very eager to see him, since I have been a fan for quite a while. Conrad and I set out for the Nokia Theater and he convinced me he knew where we were going. I knew it was close to the Staples Center and we headed in that direction. In the plaza, Conrad asked directions from a security guard to Club Nokia and we headed in. We went through security including metal detectors and security peering in my purse and Conrad emptying his pockets. They scanned our tickets and told us the show had just started. The club looked a little small for what I was expecting and the show was starting early. Conrad thought it was an opening act, and I was willing to go along with it. I started to think we might be in the wrong place when PeeWee Herman took the stage. When we asked an usher where our seats where he looked at our tickets and said he did not know. I started to think maybe we were in the right venue....surely if he looked at our tickets and they were for a different event, he would have noticed. Wrong.

Turns out that the Nokia Theater and Club Nokia are two different places. We corrected our mistake in time to see Eddie and learn what could be a valuable lesson for the future : if you dress up and have blind confidence and tickets you can walk into any show. I am keeping tickets on hand all the time. Who knows where we could get in for free...
