In the fairly significant effort that I am making to save money, I decided that I am no longer allowed to buy books. Unless I am in an airport, that is a different story altogether. Anyway, I looked up my local library. Embarrassingly enough it was actually only a few blocks away. It is pretty little, I was not very impressed.
I selected a book by John Irving, Until I Find You. Now, before any of you rush out to find this book I must let you know that it is not very good. Save your time. I am not really sure why I keep reading John Irving books. He did write one of my absolute favorite books ever (A Prayer for Owen Meany), but every other book of his has been a disappointment. It is a rather long book and since I was not very interested, I kept it for way too long. I renewed it several times and then I didn't even bother to do that. I finally finished it when the library called me and asked me to return it.
But here was the real disappointment. I had talked myself into not being snobby. I convinced myself that I didn't have to buy books and then give them away. I convinced myself that I could read books that had been read by many others. I used to read books from the library all the time, why couldn't I start again. Of course this would be the first time that I would have a library book that had samples of all the snacks the previous reader had while they were reading. Yes, there was food in the book. Pieces of popcorn fell out. Pieces of brownie fell out. Oh ick.
I am not really sure how to avoid this in the future. Shake out the books in the library? Find smaller books?

Sign up to be on the waiting list for the NEW books that are coming into the libray, and you'll avoid all those yucky snacks, over-turned pages, and you will have that new smell that we all love so much...
So wait, I am confused. Are you disappointed because you are no longer going to be snobby?
